FraudScore Fraud Screening
Techniques used in online card-not-present fraud are becoming more and more sophisticated. Traditional fraud screening tools can only determine if a credit card is legitimate or if the user-entered account information matches those on record. Today, fraudsters can obtain personal credit card information, pose as the legitimate card holder, and bypass standard fraud checks.
What is FraudScore?
FraudScore is a proprietary online fraud detection service that combines MaxMind's GeoIP® technology with other order variable checks such as open proxy detection. The FraudScore service can provide all the information obtained during manual verification and more in less than one second. Merchants can use the FraudScore service to speed up manual order verification, automate order process by using our risk scores, or develop their own customized scoring system with the information that we provide.
How FraudScore Works:
Given the Internet's built-in anonymity and ability to execute transactions from anywhere, authenticating the identity of the customer can be fairly difficult. Traditional tools such as AVS and CVV have become less effective since sophisticated fraudsters generally have access to complete credit card information of the individual they are trying to impersonate.
Geolocation is the ability to determine where online visitors are physically located based on their IP addresses. With geolocation, merchants can use information they already have, the user's IP, to non-intrusively determine where their customers are physically located. By creating geographic boundaries on the Internet and providing the customer's location, geolocation can be used effectively to detect potential fraud by analyzing the differences between the user location and the billing address.
The FraudScore service is a web service that can be queried via the HTTP protocol using a pre built plugin that we have created to seamlessly integrate with SunShop. Merchants are not required to ask customers for any additional information since the data service inputs are the same as those typically used on online order forms. Within a few seconds, FraudScore returns a risk score as well as other relevant raw details on the analysis of the transaction. The resulting data can be used to automate order processing or used to supplement manual review.
How To Signup:
To begin using FraudScore, simply enable the plugin located in the SunShop administration panel. All new SunShop users will have access to 100 free credits once the plugin has been activated. Once you decide if FraudScore is right for you, you can purchase additional credits within the client area of the Turnkey Web Tools site.
